American Diabetes Association (ADA)

Objective

NFL players participated in the league’s My Cause My Cleats campaign with custom-designed cleats to bring awareness to the diabetes epidemic and the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) efforts to improve the lives of people living with diabetes and find potential cures. The goal was to design cleats for NFL player John Jenkins portraying who he was, while adding recognizable branding elements of ADA.

Design Solution

A mood board was presented to John Jenkins supporting ADA's current campaign and slogan, "For Life" along with a mission statement. The design of the cleats displayed heartfelt text of his grandmother who passed away from diabetes, as well as his mother who also struggled with diabetes. His passion for race cars, specifically Ferrari, was incorporated with vivid red colors, and textural eyecatching surfaces that resemble the exhiliration of a high-speed Italian race car in a slick fashion. Texturized rubber base, metallic silver chrome plates, knit cuff metallic red collar, on Nike's Vapor Untoucheable Pro3 football cleat added pizzaz to the overall look.

Results

Although some alterations were made during the production process, Jenkins was thrilled by the design which he undoubtedly felt captured his persona as well as his drive to support a meaninful cause.
